Katy Perry & her cleavage, it's all relative

IN case you missed it- Katy Perry did a little number with Elmo this week that was removed and not to air after too many parents complained about her cleavage. See the clip here. Katy Perry was the musical guest on SNL this week and poked fun at the hullabaloo during a skit. Thoughts? (ps I crafted the above picture, pretty thought provoking huh?... lol)

Common Ground Fair, 2010

On Friday we went to the Common Ground Fair in Unity, Maine, about an 1:45 mins north of Portland. As always, we had a great time. The weather was slightly over cast, the changing leaves on the drive up and back were a lovely sight and the fair was packed with great vendors of hand made artisan crafts, wool, farm goods, livestock and green technology. The fair runs Fri-Sunday, so if you are in the area head on out! Here are a few cell phone pictures I took to share with my blog readers. To learn more about the fair go HERE.

Sheep dog demonstration- always a favorite!
It was fun to pack in another fall esque experience while I can still waddle around... we'll see what's in store for next weekend!?

Stuart Haygarth: Framed, an installation at London's V&A

Stuart Haygarth was commissioned to make an installation for the entrance of London's Victoria and Albert Museum. The result is really lovely... I can't really put it into words at the moment, nothing cohesive at least, so I will let the work speak instead. Learn more about the project HERE. And watch the Installation video here.

Living a Money-Less life, by Mark Boyle

Mark Boyle has been living a money-less life in the U.K. for the past 20 months. He barters, recycles, grows and forages for his food and other survival needs. He's written a book about his new lifestyle: The Money-less Man, a Year of Freeconomic Living.  Watch the above clip.

The husband and I often talk about living off the grid, or at best living a life that is less dependent on money- easy to imagine when purse strings are tight! ; ) The environmental benefits of living this way are VERY appealing as well... thus I found this story inspiring and I look forward to reading his book.

Dressing for Fall, a gathering of fun items

It's fun to dream and surf around for new fall "pieces". I feel a little out of the loop this season- being pregnant and due in Nov... not to mention funds are a little tighter as a result... thus I'm living precariously through my blog and by being the shopping friend who is encouraging you to splurge on that great new what-yah-ma-call-it! Below is a little fall outfit I put together on my search.

Woolsey Hall Cardigan, from Anthropologie.

Silk Posy tee, from J-Crew.

Ankle Wrap Ballerina flats, at Garnet Hill. (they're cute, but are they comfortable?)

Autumnal Eye Candy, Apple Picking at The McKenzie Farm in N.H.

Tuesday afternoon we drove out to Milton, New Hampshire to visit our sister in law, pick some apples and have a fun fall experience. Our sister in law has been working at the McKenzie Farm since 2008 and it's been a great place to go have a New England fall experience over the years. So I wanted to share some fall eye candy from our little day trip and I hope they inspire you to go apple picking at our local farm! (click on images to view them larger. Taken with my cell phone... so keep that in mind)

If you are in the area the weekend of October 9th-10th check out the McKenzie Farm's "McKtoberfest" a day full of hayrides, face painting, pumpkin painting, live music and great food!

Off to the Orchard to pick a huge bag full of apples!

My watermelon and I testing out the different varieties!

The "pick your own" flowers- more spectacular in person!

The "pick your own" pumpkin patch.

And inside the shop- bags of pre picked apples.

PUMPKINS!

Fresh McKenzie Apple cider!

We have enough apples to open up an apple pie stand, but I think we will be back later in the fall!

Cook these up this Fall- Pumpkin Cupcakes

I used Martha Stewart's Recipe for these pumpkin cupcakes and this Recipe for the cream cheese frosting. The Result- a tasty fall treat, more like a muffin (without the icing), AND oh soooo goood. PS: the recipe says it yields 18, but I easily made 24 cupcakes.  Enjoy!

Homemade Chocolate Ice Cream

It had been a while since we rocked our ice cream maker, and for some reason the crisp fall-esque air and our sweet tooth inspired us to make a new flavor, and what better one to try after Vanilla, and vanilla-strawberry, than chocolate!? We followed Alton Brown's recipe for home made chocolate ice cream. The result was phenomenal- like chocolate mousse- but in a good way. If you're feeling decadent get yourself an ice cream maker and go to town. Ours- is the handy kitchen aid attachment.
Happy Ice cream making!

Watch the animated video HERE.

Whispers of Fall

We took a walk last week at Two Lights State Park in Cape Elizabeth.

The park resides along a beautiful expanse of coastline- as seen above. There are many picnic areas with picnic tables nestled in and among the trees and many have lovely views of the water. Making this a fun area to bring out of town guests!

Mr and Lil Miss Squinty pants- testing out my new cell phone self take possibilities, maybe I shouldn't concentrate so hard?

Lovely fall berries and shrubs tucked in amongst the rocks.

Then on Saturday we went to the farmer's market, bought some cucumbers and a lovely bouquet of wild flowers. Fall seemed to be everywhere- with squash, gourds, and fingerling potatoes at almost every stand. It's funny how quickly the weather has changed over the last two weeks. We have added a wool blanket to the bed, and little dog is no longer passed out belly up trying to cool down, but rather seeks  a cozy spot underneath blankets or her sheep fleece.

We have some fun fall events coming up on the calendar- the Common ground fair, apple picking, and more fall walks. I love this time of year. How do you celebrate Fall?
