100 years of fashion AND dancing in East London

Happy Friday! have any fun weekend plans? Not sure what we have going on, just happy the husband isn't scheduled to work (for now at least).  After this crazy week of working with the baby on a new sleep routine I am up for a treat! I'll report back if I find out what that is.  In the mean time enjoy this little video of 100 years of fashion in East London!

A Knit Poppy

I knit this flower a few weeks back to give to my cousin's baby- to add a feminine touch to all of the gender neutral knit goods we made before the baby was born. It was really fun to FINALLY crack open the book 100 Flowers to Knit & Crochet. I knit the poppy in white as seen above, and my husband knit the purple french knots. I just couldn't get my mind around them... maybe next time. Then I finished the flower with a little safety pin secured to the back to make the bud a little item Ella can pin to her jacket, hat, or teddy bear for years to come- ie: something she won't necessarily grow out of right away!

In addition to the poppy, I also knit two snow peas just to try out the pattern. I used the same yarn but different size needles (a 7 for the big one and a set of 3 for the smaller one (give or take)). They remind me of badminton shuttlecocks! Not sure what their purpose or destination will be? Now I'm thinking about knitting up a little floral mobile for above the baby's crib. I'll report back!

Links and Such

How the heck is it Thursday already!? Guess that feeling is standard after a holiday weekend! I hope your week is going swimmingly. Mine is a challenging one- we are transitioning our 10 month old out of the "family bed" and into her own crib in her own room... so far it's going alright. I'm doing it mostly solo- since the husbo is going to school and working- yikes I'm tired. I've been definitely earning my merit badges this week! I'll report more about our sleep victories and lesson in a specific blog post later next week. In the meantime enjoy this week's Links and Such!

Handmade Shout Out

This week's Handmade Shout Out goes to Sweetbestiary, an etsy shop from London whose miniature pins, dolls, and sculptures are playful and add a little bit of joy and child-like imagination to the day to day! I love everything in this shop, there is something captivating about each piece... as if each one has it's own little fairy tale. Here are just a few of my favorites. Be sure to check out the shop to see even more great pieces!

A Love letter to Fall

Hello all! Good morning, Happy Labor Day and Happy FIRST Love Letter to fall, this season's new blog series (a visual series, this is the only one with such a lengthy intro)! Even though it was 90 degrees yesterday, it feels appropriate to begin this series, after all school is back in session for most and we do have some leaves turning on the occasional fall enthusiast tree in our area. And as with my Love letter to summer series there will be a mix of seasonal etsy products and diy projects, just simply click on the "***" beneath each picture to view it's source when available! I love fall, it's my favorite time of year. This fall will be a fun one since it's our Daughter's 1st birthday at the end of October. We will however miss our New England Falls- we loved going to The Common Ground Fair and will try and find something fall-esque like that around the Philly area (let me know if you know of anything!)! Why I love fall- I love the cool air, the crunch of fallen leaves, apple cider, Thanksgiving, pumpkin pie, sweater weather, knitting inspiration abounds, fall walks, sleeping with the windows open, and the list goes on! What are some of your favorite fall activities? Let me know I would love to include them in future love letters!

Have a great week!

Weekend Plans?

Happy September by the way and Happy Labor Day weekend!? any fun plans? My immediate family is at the shore but my little family is staying put... the husbo is back at school again AND working this weekend. Luckily I have a car to help motivate the little miss and I to get out and about! I think we will go to Terrain's Late Summer Cheese and Honey Festival on Saturday! And then a friend from grad school is coming over on Sunday and we will all cook out back... so I wont be a complete hermit this weekend!

If you are going away this weekend- I wish you no traffic, lots of ice cream and sun. If you are staying put and perhaps twiddling your thumbs- check out my DIY board on Pinterest for fun ideas to inspire creativity! I might finally revisit crocheting with this chain garland tutorial! I think it would be cute hanging up all year long in a children's room, or make a smaller version for a necklace.

Have a great weekend!

Anywho, here is this week's Links and Such, just some things I've been "pinning" and saving from around the interwebs! ; ) enjoy.
