Millie took off down the stairs and into the yard to play with our land lord's dog who lives below. A 10 yr old lab who let Millie know when he was done playing with a loud series of barks.  They had fun though! (this picture is funny- so click on it to view it larger!)

summer reading part 1

My mom gave all of her children this fabulous book. And for the first time in a long time I am hooked and only at 40 pages in. I had heard about this book a few years ago and saw interviews and read reviews, but just never got around to getting a copy for myself- I guess to much reading for graduate school got in the way!

So here's my opinion- mind you only 40 pages in...

There is a very natural narrative Weisman has. It's the perfect example of how to convey information in a very tangible package.  If I was a college professor I would make my student's read this book as an example for how they should do a research paper.  i.e.- get to really know your research to where you can naturally retell all you have learned in a very interesting and page turning narrative.

anyway! I recommend it!   We are heading to one of the local beaches this weekend and I'll be taking my summer reading!  I'll post a final review once I've completed the book.

here's an idea!

SO- my job this week was to find a place to put some of my clothes in our new apartment. My closet is a bit smaller! And as I was going through this pile and sorting and organizing I noticed something that gave me inspiration for HOW TO put an outfit together!
Most of these pieces I had not worn together, but after seeing them in the same pile my previous conceptions were altered!  And so here's the idea- maybe on some boring week night go to your closet and take out a chunk of clothes. Lay them on the bed and start matching things together that aren't your normal outfit combinations. HEY the recession is all about "shopping" your closet and this could be a fun way to do just that!
PLUS it will make you combine some funky things together that you never thought you would- giving your wardrobe a little kick and an added umph!

Wednesday at the farmer's market

Every Wednesday around lunch time there is a farmer's market in monument square. Cameron had never been so we went and bought some lettuce for the week and a few pepper plants to include with our tomatoes out back!
It's always so nice to go to these markets but at the same time it's torture the selection of plants taunts us with dreams of our own garden someday....  someday when renting will be a memory and home ownership a reality!
Meanwhile we make due with our little stoop and Millie likes the sun bathing opportunities it provides. Quite the pinup.

Paper

Our first anniversary- and our gifts are paper! Cameron gave me a new sketchbook with my favorite drawing pens!
I made him a diorama out of an old snyder's pretzel box! It's 3d but hard to tell in this picture. I used a left over thank you card- from an image from our wedding. And some old pictures of Alaska in the background.
A side view- I left the ends open to let in light and I might tweak it a bit here and there.  Paper was a fun one! See my anniversary blog entry below for other gift ideas!

*Update: I bought the husband a large photograph of a bee keeper keeping her bees, form a local art student! love saying it with art!

one year ago today...

one year ago today... My Dad gave me away on a hill side in Brandywine Park overlooking the hills of Winterthur as our family looked on. (NOTE: you can click on the pictures to view them larger)
one year ago today  we took a walk down through the field after sharing our vows, to soak it all in.
one year ago today I had the most beautiful bouquet by Yukie and wished that it would always last.
one year ago today we ate dinner in my parent's garden and Scott Lewis took our amazing photographs!
one year ago today a hummingbird paid us a visit, Liam drank his Virgil's root beer, my Dad gave a touching toast. The Mother's made amazing pies- Cherry, strawberry and french silk! 

one year ago today... was a very good day.

Fresh bread! Hmmmmm from the first Loaf baked in Maine!
We went to the Farmer's market on Saturday in Deering Park and got the beets! SOOOO good!
We steamed them with some squash and garlic for lunch.
